IIT Madras Regional Workshop on Student Mental Wellbeing

IIT Madras Mental Wellness Workshop: Indian Institute of Technology Madras organised two day regional workshop that brought together faculty members and higher education professionals from South India to discuss ways to improve student mental health and wellbeing. This workshop was organised under Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme of Ministry of Education. It is part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen student wellbeing systems in higher education institutions.

IIT Madras Becomes First CFTI to Receive ISO Certification for Wellness Centre

During workshop, IIT Madras announced that its Wellness Centre has received ISO certification from TUV NORD Group. With this, IIT Madras has become first Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) in India to earn internationally recognised certification for occupational health and safety management.

This initiative follows recommendations of Ministry of Education committee formed to review implementation of national student wellbeing framework. The committee suggested strengthening mentoring, academic guidance and institutional support systems for students. IIT Madras hosted one of the five regional workshops being conducted across India to make mental wellbeing an important part of higher education system.

Southern Region workshop saw participation of 200 faculty members, counsellors, hostel wardens, administrators and student support professionals from universities and higher education institutions across South India. The discussions covered stress-free education, student wellbeing policies, institutional support systems, resilience, life skills, stress management, preventive mental healthcare, healthy lifestyles and ways to promote happiness and overall wellbeing on campuses.
