The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation is collaborating with L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC), a French university, to launch India’s first course on ‘Aviation Safety Management’ in the civil aviation sector. This course is aimed at professionals in the air transport industry, training safety managers and experts to lead, evaluate, enhance, and promote safety performance across organizations within the air transport system.

The first batch, limited to 30 seats, will begin in January 2025. The registration deadline is 15th December 2024. Interested candidates can register by emailing dsa@iitmpravartak.net or applying through the website: digitalskills.iitmpravartak.org.in/course_details.php?courseID=285&cart=

This two-year program features in-person sessions: one week every two months in the first year and one week each month in the second year. French faculty will travel to conduct courses throughout the program. It also includes a six-month project or dissertation. The course is ideal for working professionals in aviation, as well as senior and mid-level managers in state aviation authorities and operators.

Welcoming this collaboration between IITM and ENAC in a critical sector, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “We are delighted to work with ENAC - a 70+ years organization focused on airline safety management and its related process. IIT Madras and ENAC have the same agenda of imparting education and skill and to help the community in general and the country as a whole.”

Prof. V. Kamakoti added, “Our relationship will touch every passenger flying in and out of India and we are delighted to be part of such an initiative. There is a need for a consistent way of education and skilling as the volume of travel increases frequently and associated challenges to the safety of the industry.”

Highlighting the need for such courses, Dr. M.J. Shankar Raman, Chief Executive Officer, Pravartak, said, “Civil Aviation is one of the fastest growing industries in the last two decades. Digitization has shrunk the world bringing in huge benefits for the travel industry. The Airline industry's exponential growth comes with its own set of challenges. It is highly regulated and requires standards and consistency of rules/regulations along with robust and clean processes to assure safety to millions of passengers worldwide.”
