Toppers and Subject Experts Guide to Score Good Marks in JEE Main and Class 12 Boards

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2022 session 1 exam is scheduled to be held on April 21, 24, 25, 29 and May 1, 4. The CBSE class 12 board exams as well as boards of many other states will also be held in April-May. As only a few days are left for the exam, students are putting in all their efforts to give a final touch to their exam preparation.

Preparing for JEE Main and class 12 board exams could be a difficult task as both the exams have a different paper pattern, difficulty levels and syllabus. Also, board exams and JEE dates are overlapped with each other making it even more difficult to synchronize between the two.

Previous year JEE Main toppers and various subject experts believe that students can score good marks in both boards and JEE if studied in a planned manner.

FIITJEE Director R.L.Trikha says, It is not difficult to prepare for JEE Main and class 12 together as the syllabus for both exams is almost the same. What is needed is a timetable to study. Students should make a timetable for their daily studies and give separate time-slot to boards and JEE.”

Mridul Agarwal, JEE Main 2021 topper says, “Students should focus on completing the syllabus on time and solving previous year question papers. As JEE Main exam tests the analytical understanding of students, it is a must to learn the basic concepts and solve numerical questions as much as possible.”

Check JEE Main study tips from previous year toppers and various subject experts.

Plan a Time Table: In order to attain what you aspire for, it is vital to have the right preparation strategy and follow it strictly.

Divide your preparation time equally: To ensure each subject is given equal emphasis in both JEE Main and boards, it is better to divide your preparation time suitably. Spend equal time to revise each subject and then attempt the sample/mock and past years papers.

Pick the right study material: Students should select the right study material for which they can ask their school teachers or colleagues preparing for JEE Main. NCERT textbooks serve the best purpose for serious students. Some suggestions for books:

  • Physics: H C Verma, Problems in IITJEE by Sashi Bhushan Tiwari

  • Mathematics: NCERT, Arihant Publications

  • Chemistry: Organic- MS Chauhan, Inorganic- Cengage, Physical Chemistry- Neeraj Kumar

Get your basic concepts clear: Questions in an exam like JEE Main are difficult and requires a deep understanding of basic concepts. Students must focus on learning the basic concepts of each topic in every subject and avoid memorizing.

Solve previous year papers and take mock tests: It is very important to find out your weak areas and work accordingly to bridge that gap. Previous year papers and mock tests will serve the purpose for this. Taking mock tests will acquaint you with your current preparedness and also your shortcomings.
