KEAM 2025 Rank List Controversy Continues: Colleges Fear Delay, Govt Appeals High Court Verdict

The government has filed an appeal to a division bench following the High Court's annulment of the KEAM 2025 results. Further delays regarding a definite decision on the results are anticipated as the division bench is set to hear the appeal today.
On Wednesday, July 9, the High Court annulled the results of the KEAM 2025 engineering entrance and pharmacy examination. This decision came just as the admission process was set to commence, leaving thousands of students in a state of uncertainty.
With this uncertainty regarding the KEAM 2025 result, there will be repercussions such as shortened academic sessions for engineering students, and the counselling and allotment processes will need to be redone. Many students may also find themselves looking for opportunities outside the state, which would incur additional costs since revising the rank list according to the previous system will take time.
As legal processes tend to be lengthy, the students will face challenges as the government has opted to appeal. The Higher Education Minister R Bindu defended the new approach by stating, βThe standardisation process could have resulted in a 35-mark disadvantage for Kerala syllabus students. Thatβs why we implemented a formula that was just for everyone.β
The state has appealed to a division bench, contesting the order from the single bench. The High Court is set to hear the appeal today, July 10.
Self-financing engineering college suggests KEAM rank list preparation based on entrance exam scores only
Managements of self-financing engineering colleges have voiced their worries regarding the upcoming confusion and possible delays in the admission process. They are concerned that high-achieving students may choose colleges outside of Kerala if the issues are not addressed. To tackle this, the Kerala State Self-financing Engineering Management Association suggested that the KEAM rank list should be created solely based on the marks from the entrance examination, disregarding plus two marks to prevent further conflicts and ensure timely admissions.
