NIRF Rankings 2021 to be announced on September 9 at 12 noon
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) will be announced this week on September 9. The Rankings has been delayed because of the COVID-19 second wave.
This year NIRF rankings will have a new category of rankings, “Research Institutions”, where institutions will be ranked based on their research activities.
Dr Anil Kumar Nassa, member secretary, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) speaking to Shiksha last week had informed that the NIRF 2021 to be out soon, and this year a new category will be introduced, ‘Research Institutions’.
As per the NIRF, the eligible institutions need to have at least 500 research publications indexed in Web of Science/Scopus for a period of 3 years or at least 1000 students enrolled in the PhD program.
The parameters of ranking institutions for their research activities will be different from the ones used for rankings institutions under the existing 10 categories of NIRF.
The NIRF Ranking 2020 was announced in ten categories with the introduction of ranking of dental college for the first time. The 10 categories are Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law and Dental.
In the 2020 rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras emerged as the best higher education institution in the country followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi.
The NIRF ranks institutions under different categories broadly under five parameters, Teaching-Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
