NIT Agartala To Introduce B.Sc-B.Ed Course

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced the commencement of a four-year BSc-BEd course at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala, as a pilot project to train aspiring teachers. Going by the NIRF 2023 Ranking, the NIT Agartala ranks 91 in the Engineering category. The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course, initiated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), is expected to expand to numerous other colleges starting the next academic year. 

In the 13th Legislative Assembly session, Chief Minister Saha, who holds the position of both Chief Minister and Education Minister in the state, announced that NIT Agartala is currently providing the BSc-BEd course under the ITEP initiative. He expressed that more colleges in the state will obtain the approval for ITEP courses in the forthcoming academic year, as per ANI. 

District Institute of Education and Training in Tripura 

Addressing questions about District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) colleges, he informed that there are currently seven DIET colleges in the state, with an additional one under construction at Panisagar in North Tripura district. Plans are in place to recruit more teachers for the new college. He also stated to the Assembly that the Finance Department has approved the filling of eight lecturer positions in DIET colleges for the financial year 2023-24.

He also mentioned that the teaching program for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) teacher training course in the DIET College under Dhanpur Assembly is not possible in the current academic year, pending approval from the National Council for Teacher Education. However, the newly built DIET building is presently in use by the Department of Education, SCERT, for the implementation of diverse programs focused on educating and training teachers.
