The Delhi University is all set to implement the NEP from the academic year 2022-23 following approval from both the executive and academic council. 

The University of Delhi (DU) has formed a seven-member committee to frame the syllabi of new interdisciplinary courses that will be introduced under the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Delhi University is all set to implement the NEP from the academic year 2022-23 following approval from both the executive and academic council. 

The Delhi University in its notification stated that β€œthe committee shall frame the syllabi with respect to the following new interdisciplinary courses that are part of the structures of the undergraduate courses of study approved by the Academic Council during the meeting held on August 24, 2021 and the Executive Council in its meeting held on August 31, 2021 for implementation from the Academic year 2022-23, for consideration by the Academic Council of the University.

The respective courses are ethics and culture, social and emotional learning, innovation and entrepreneurship, co-curricular, science and society and IT skills, data analysis and mathematics.

The Committee includes, Professor Vivek Suneja, Faculty of Management Studies, Professor HP Singh, Department of Physics, Professor Shobha Bagai, Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC), Dr Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, Dr Suman Sharma, Principal, Lady Shri Ram College, Dr SP Aggarwal, Principal, Ramanujan College, and Dr Asani Bhaduri, Assistant Professor, CIC, who will be the member-secretary. 

On July 29, 2020, the Cabinet had given its nod to National Education Police, five years after the first committee to draft NEP was constituted. The NEP 2020 was drafted by a committee chaired by the scientist, K Kasturirangan. The Cabinet approved the NEP, which replaces the 34 -year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and is aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.

The NEP Interdisciplinary Courses Committee is empowered to constitute Interdisciplinary Sub-Committees/Working Groups for assisting the committee in framing the syllabi for the NEP Interdisciplinary Courses, comprising teachers of the departments, centres and colleges of the university," the notification further added.
