With students from national boards like CBSE and ISC still awaiting their results, Mumbai University has decided to move ahead with its admission process for the academic year 2022-23. This could in turn lead to confusion amongst the students who were looking forward to taking admission to the colleges affiliated with Mumbai University.

Soon after the Mumbai University Admissions 2022 schedule was released, several college and school principals named the decision as discriminatory. The Mumbai University in its circular mentioned that "all colleges, including autonomous ones, will have to admit students only as per sanctioned intake. The colleges may get permission for additional seats to admit CBSE and ICSE board students as per college merit cut-off in due course."

While speaking to TOI, one of the officials said, "students from CBSE and ISC schools make up only 4-5 per cent of the total aspirants applying to Mumbai University." However, a principal denying the claim said that "in some of the city’s top-rung colleges, they take up almost 40- 50 per cent seats in sought-after courses. If admissions are based on HSC only, the cut-offs will be lower. A lot of CBSE and ISC students will become eligible in these top colleges. How many students can these colleges accommodate later? There should be space to start extra divisions.”

He also said that students might move to court against the varsity's decision. It must be noted that some of the autonomous degree colleges will be conducting entrance tests, and is planning to give weightage to class 12th scores.
