The misinformation comes at a time of heightened tension after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

The University of Mumbai has issued an urgent clarification regarding a fraudulent notice that claimed "all exams have been postponed due to a war situation," following the recent escalation of conflict between India and Pakistan. The university confirmed via an X post that the circular was fake and no such directive had been issued, urging students to rely solely on official sources for updates.

The misinformation comes at a time of heightened tension after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan has reported 26 deaths and 46 injuries from the Indian strikes, while India confirmed five fatalities due to Pakistani shelling.

The fake notice, which mimicked official university communication, caused widespread alarm among students, many of whom rely on public transport and expressed safety concerns amid the ongoing unrest. The University of Mumbai emphasized that spreading misinformation is a punishable offense and directed students to its official website and social media channels for accurate information.

This incident follows a history of exam postponements by the University of Mumbai for other reasons. For instance, on July 8, 2024, the university delayed the B.Sc. (Hospitality Studies) Sem V exam due to heavy rainfall, as announced on its website. The current situation, however, underscores the heightened anxiety among students as geopolitical tensions continue to unfold.
