Mumbai University has introduced a new climate skills programme in collaboration with the British Council. The programme aims to equip students and teachers with essential skills in order to tackle the urgent climate change challenges, particularly in India. The curriculum of the programme is part of the British Council's Climate Skill - Seeds for Transition initiative. The initiative includes five countries namely Indonesia, Vietnam, Brazil, Mexico and India.

Mumbai University is among the three Indian universities selected to carry out the initiative.  It aims to train expert instructors from the university and its affiliated colleges in order to have more of an impact on the community.

Phase 1 Will Begin on March 22

Reportedly, the Mumbai University Climate Skill Programme's curriculum would be executed in stages, with teachers and members from many departments at the college actively contributing. The first phase will begin on March 22 for which the institution has selected up to 25 master trainers and three co-facilitators who will get training from global specialists appointed by the British Council, as reported by Indian Express.

The first part of the programme will include five consecutive days of training with experts proposed by the British Council.  Following that, these master trainers will execute a variety of operations, such as lectures and collaborations with local governments.

Besides, students selected for the program will be working with governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders to implement region-specific climate measures.  These may involve developing public biodiversity registers, launching wetland conservation initiatives, and conducting energy inspections in order to promote environmentally friendly growth and lessen populations' exposure to climate change.
