During the CLAT 2025 hearing, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela addressed concerns raised over confusing questions in the exam. Responding to a petitioner’s objection, he remarked, “They have a right to confuse you—otherwise, what capability are they testing?”

The observation came as candidates questioned the clarity and fairness of certain logical reasoning and comprehension-based questions. The Bench emphasized that the purpose of such entrance exams is to assess reasoning and analytical skills, even if it means presenting challenging or ambiguous options.

During the Delhi High Court hearing on CLAT 2025, a petitioner raised concerns over a legal reasoning question based on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.

He argued that the passage made only a brief reference to the legislative process, yet the question asked, “A bill becomes an Act only when…?”

“The information needed to answer this is not in the passage. This again goes beyond the prescribed syllabus,” the petitioner told the Bench, questioning the relevance and fairness of the question.

During the ongoing CLAT 2025 hearing in the Delhi High Court, a petitioner argued that a legal reasoning question required knowledge beyond what was provided in the passage.

“The word ‘consideration’ doesn’t appear in the passage. The answer cannot be derived from the passage, making it out of syllabus,” the petitioner submitted.

Another candidate also supported the claim, alleging that the question paper included content outside the Consortium’s prescribed syllabus, raising concerns over fairness and transparency in the exam process.

A petitioner appearing virtually today took the Delhi High Court through a legal reasoning question in Set A, related to void and voidable agreements under the Indian Contract Act.

Petitioner: “Nowhere in the question has the provision regarding contracts with a minor been mentioned. To answer this, the student would need prior knowledge of the Contract Act.”

Justice Gedela: “So, your argument is that it was out of syllabus?”

Petitioner: “Yes, it clearly breaches the Consortium’s own declared syllabus.”

The petitioner also informed the court of the option he selected for the passage-based question.

While reviewing a disputed logical reasoning question from the CLAT 2025 paper, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela emphasized the importance of relying solely on the passage for answering.

“This is your inference,” he noted, addressing the petitioner’s counsel. “To confuse you, the question refers to statistics in the USA. How do you say option C is incorrect and D is correct? You are required to answer based on the passage, not the data you carry. It is logical reasoning.”

During the Delhi High Court hearing on CLAT 2025, another petitioner expressed dissatisfaction with the revised final answer key. The counsel argued that the provisional key had the correct answer, which was later altered in the final version.

The next petitioner, who attempted Set C of the CLAT 2025 paper, appeared before the Delhi High Court. Justice Gedela asked, “Did you raise the objections?” The counsel confirmed, “Yes, I raised the objection in time.”

Counsel for another candidate appeared before the Delhi High Court, raising objections over the same disputed question in Set D. He informed the bench that the objection was duly filed within the 24-hour window provided by the Consortium for raising challenges to the answer key.

During the ongoing CLAT 2025 result hearing in the Delhi High Court, the petitioners' counsel took the bench through a specific question that, according to them, erroneously referenced another question from a different set of the exam. The inconsistency, they argued, highlighted further flaws in the paper-setting process.

However, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela remarked, "This is never ending. The cut-off date is sanctified. Another person would challenge another question," signaling the court’s growing concern over the escalating number of disputes and the need to conclude the matter soon.

During the hearing in the Delhi High Court, counsel for petitioner Aditya Singh argued that the Oversight Committee overlooked key questions raised in the plea. “The oversight committee has not even dealt with the questions,” the counsel stated, as reported by Bar and Bench on X.

The Delhi High Court resumed hearing the petitions challenging the CLAT 2025 UG results. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard arguments from both the Consortium of NLUs and the petitioners.  Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, representing the Consortium of NLUs, argued that the CLAT 2025 answer key was the result of a thorough expert-led process. “Courts should not interfere unless there is a glaring error,” he submitted.

During the CLAT 2025 UG hearing, the counsel for the Consortium of NLUs acknowledged that one of the questions in the undergraduate paper was “wrongly formulated.” He informed the court that the question had not been referred to the Oversight Committee, as it had already been cleared by subject experts.

Note: There are 3, 213 seats for UG courses, and 1,217 seats for PG courses. The candidates who qualified CLAT 2025 will be shortlisted for admission rounds after they complete counseling registration and eligibility-related documentation.

In the ongoing CLAT 2025 hearing, the counsel representing the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) argued that judicial interference in exam results is limited to instances where the contested answers are “palpably, demonstrably, and ex facie wrong.” He concluded his submissions pertaining to the petitions challenging the undergraduate (UG) CLAT 2025 results.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 for undergraduate programs was conducted on December 1, 2024, with results announced on December 7, 2024. Subsequently, the results faced legal challenges due to alleged inaccuracies in the answer key. On December 20, 2024, the Delhi High Court identified errors in questions 14 and 100 of Set A, directing the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the answer key and update the results accordingly. This decision was upheld by a division bench on December 24, 2024. Further petitions regarding the results were transferred to the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court on February 6, 2025.

In case, two or more candidates score the same marks in CLAT 2025, the Consortium will follow the sequence given below to decide the merit rank for CLAT Result:

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) must ensure the appointment of more qualified and capable paper setters in the future. The observation was made during the forenoon session of today’s hearing, as the court examined the objections raised against specific questions in the CLAT UG 2025 exam.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for the Consortium of NLUs, informed the Delhi High Court that two subject matter experts had differing views on one of the contested questions. He noted, “There is a split opinion,” and clarified that the question, which pertains to logical verbal reasoning involving homeless individuals, was improperly framed.

Apart from the above categories, each NLU has its state domicile quota reserved horizontally in all above categories. The percentage of state domicile reservation is different for all participating NLUs, which is confirmed only at the time of admission and seat allotment process every year.

CLAT 2025 Invite List refers to the list of qualifying candidates who are eligible to participate in the counselling process. The CLAT 2025 invite list will be declared by the Consortium after the announcement of the CLAT 2025 merit list.

During CLAT counselling, candidates will be provided the option to choose from three options; i.e. freeze, float and exit. Candidates can understand all options below:

Freeze Option: In case a candidate is happy with the seat alloted to him/her then they can freeze it. With this they won't be allowed to appear in the further rounds of counselling. If a candidate freezes the seat, it means that the candidate is confirming their seat at the allotted National Law University (NLU).

Float Option: If a candidate is not happy with the seat allotted to them and wants to pariticpate in further rounds of counselling they can select the float option. This option mean that candidate is accepting the seat allotted to them but is willing to pariticpate in further rouns of counselling for a better college. Candidate must note that in case they choose the float option and is allotted a seat in the next round then the seat allotted in the previous round will be forfeited.

Exit Option: During the counselling process, if a candidate feels that they don't want to pariticipate further, then they may choose an option to exit. If they choose this option, it means that they are withdrawing from the counselling process and they will not be considered for further round of counselling. 

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) will conduct CLAT 2025 counselling in online mode. The whole counselling process for CLAT is conducted in online mode. Candidates have to register online to participate in the counselling. Eligible candidates who qualify the exam can register on the official website for the counselling. After that, they have to pay fee to complete the registration process. After registration, candidates have to declare choices for college and course seeking admission into. 

The counselling fee for CLAT 2025 is INR 30,000 for general/OBC category, and INR 20,000, for SC/ST/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD categories. The CLAT counselling fee can only be paid in online mode on the official website of the law entrance exam. The counselling fee candidate need to pay as a token amount against their allotted seat to secure it. After this, candidates will be required to pay the remaining fee against their course, which is the tuition fee+ non-refundable charges+ refundable charges and more. In case, candidates choose to withdraw / exit from their allotted after they freeze/ float, and have paid the counselling fee, then they will get a refund of their amount after deduction of INR 5,000 from it. However, full amount will be refunded only in case when the candidate did not freeze/ float their allotted seat.
