Maharashtra schools for primary classes to reopen from Dec 1
Maharashtra commenced offline classes for the students of Class 5 to 12 on October 4. The schools in the state were closed for over 18 months due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
Maharashtra School Reopening: The Maharashtra government has announced its decision to reopen schools for Classes 1 to 4 in rural areas and 1 to 7 in urban areas from December 1. Education minister Varsha Gaikwad through her official Twitter handle informed the government’s decision on school reopening in the state.
The minister wrote, “After discussing with the Chief Minister, the cabinet and pediatric task force, the state cabinet has decided to re-open schools from Std 1st to 4th in rural areas and Std 1st to 7th in urban areas from the 1st of December. We are committed to the safe resumption of schools.”
The minister further added, "In the next 6 days, the emphasis will be on acclimatising schools, parents and children towards a safe transition to physical classes as classrooms have been shut for nearly two years. We will be holding consultations with school mgt committees and parents."
"I will also hold deliberations with the paediatric task force on the need to update the SOPs for re-opening for the sake of the much younger children, some of whom may be attending physical classes for the first time. Their well-being, health has always been our topmost priority," Gaikwad said.

The state education minister announced last month made an announcement regarding the reopening of schools along with standard operating procedures (SOPs). According to the Maharashtra government, schools have been resumed for Classes 5 to 12 in rural areas and for Classes 8 to 12 in urban areas of the state.
Maharashtra also reopened colleges and universities on October 20 after being closed for more than a year. Meanwhile, schools and colleges are also set to open in Delhi after being closed due to severely poor air quality. The environment minister has informed the state that schools may reopen taking necessary precautions in the National Capital as the air quality has improved than before.
