Exclusive: NIRF Rankings 2025 to Retain ‘Medical’; New Sustainability Category Added
Exclusive update: NIRF Rankings 2025 will retain the ‘Medical’ category. A new Sustainability (SDG) category takes the total to 17 this year.
The upcoming NIRF Rankings 2025, scheduled for release on September 4, will continue to feature the ‘Medical’ category. The year the NIRF Rankings will have 17 categeories with inclusion of 'Sustainability'.
A source close to the ranking framework told Shiksha.com that while there was speculation about its removal this year, “Medical was very much part of the NIRF Rankings last year and will remain so in 2025 as well.”
He added that in addition, a new Sustainability (SDG) category has been introduced, taking the total number of categories from 16 in 2024 to 17 in 2025. The new category is aimed at evaluating institutions on their eco-friendly practices, research on sustainability, inclusive development initiatives, and contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Ministry of Education will announce the NIRF India Rankings on September 4, 2025, at 11 AM IST, during an event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Results will be published on the official website of NIRF, nirfindia.org.

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a paper-and-pencil-based test (PBT) of three hours or 180 minutes duration. There will be a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), all of which will be compulsory to attempt. The syllabus of the exam consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The Biology subject is segregated between Zoology and Botany. On the other hand, the Chemistry subject is segregated into Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Unlike last year, the subjects will not be divided into two sections.
According to the marking scheme, each correct question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions. The following table brings the structure of the NEET exam.

The format for NEET exam is a total of 180 question with total 720 marks. Four marks will be awarded for a right answer and one mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. The questions will be objective type that is MCQ based. 90 questions will be from Biology including Zoology and Botany both, and 45 questions each from Physics and 45 Chemistry. Each subject will be divided into two sections. The syllabus will be that of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE syllabus.

As per the NEET exam pattern, the Biology section has the highest number of questions. Out of the total 360 questions, 90 questions come from the Biology section. The Biology section is segregated into two subjects, Botany and Zoology, each consisting of 45 questions, making the total number of questions to be 90.
