On February 4, 2022, Puducherry schools for all classes and colleges reopened after the administration reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the Union Territory.

On February 4, 2022, Puducherry schools for all classes and colleges reopened after the administration reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the Union Territory.

Puducherry Schools Closed: Holiday on February 16 has been declared by Puducherry Administration for schools in the Union Territory. According to the official information released by the administration, all government and private schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain shut today, February 16, 2022 on account of the Masi Magam Festival. 

In a press release, the Puducherry government's Joint Director of Education V G Sivagami informed that the revision examinations, however, would be held as scheduled.

On February 4, 2022, Puducherry schools for all classes and colleges reopened after the administration reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the Union Territory. The decision was made after the minister had a meeting with officials at the Department of Education. 

The authorities also allowed Puducherry colleges to run at full capacity and have full-day sessions and Puducherry Schools will resume classes being held six days a week. 

About Masi Magham Festival

Masi Magham celebrated in the months of February-March as an auspicious day. As per the Gregorian calendar, February and March are known as the Tamil month of Masi. Masi Magam is also known as Maha Magam, named after one of the 27 Nakshatras, Magham.

The annual festival is celebrated when Jupiter enters the Leo constellation, which happens once in twelve years. The festival is also associated as a cleansing ritual to attain salvation and is an important event in the Tamil Hindu culture.
