Delhi University undergraduate students from all affiliated colleges will now have to get a total of 63% combined scores in their first and second semesters in order to get promoted.

DU Promotion Passing Criteria

Delhi University has increased the promotion passing criteria for undergraduate students from 50% to 63% with an immediate effect. The undergraduate students studying in Delhi University-affiliated colleges will have to get a combined percentage of 63% in their first and second semesters in order to qualify for promotion.

However, DU students representing the university in sports, National Cadet Corps (NCC), extracurricular activities and National Service Scheme may get exemption from the DU 63% promotion passing criteria.

The step to increase the DU passing criteria 2024 has been taken to confound the deficiency in the enactment of the National Education Policy (NEP) Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022 in Delhi University, as reported by TOI.

DU Promotion Passing Criteria: Analysis

Previously, a student was considered for promotion from first year to second year with 50% of the exams of the first and second semesters collectively. The students earlier had to clear seven papers with a total of 22 credits to be considered for promotion. However, now students need 28 credits as per the guidelines to align with the student goals set in the National Education Policy (NEP).

A 12-member committee including Deans of several DU affiliated colleges such as Miranda House, LSRC, Kirori Mal College and Dean, Academics and Controller of Examination held a meeting for recommendations. As a result, the meeting decided that a student should get at least 28 credits, up from 22 credits in order to move to the next year.
