The second round has brought fresh allocations to 24,843 candidates, while 27,314 applicants have been upgraded to higher-preference colleges or programmes. Additionally, 17,922 students opted to freeze their previously allotted seats
The University of Delhi has released the results of Round 2 seat allocation for undergraduate admissions 2025–26 under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS–UG). A total of 87,335 applicants have now been allotted seats, including fresh allocations, upgrades, and frozen seats—exceeding the official seat matrix of 71,624. This strategic over-allocation reflects DU’s push to fill more seats early and minimise attrition in later rounds.
Record Allocations, Big Upgrades: Round 2 Sees Fresh Momentum
The second round has brought fresh allocations to 24,843 candidates, while 27,314 applicants have been upgraded to higher-preference colleges or programmes. Additionally, 17,922 students opted to freeze their previously allotted seats, confirming their satisfaction with their current placement and opting out of further upgrades. These numbers indicate a strong movement within the system and high student engagement in reshuffling to better choices.
DU’s Over-Allocation Strategy Pays Off
In just two rounds, Delhi University has crossed the 87,000 mark in total seat allocations, despite offering only 71,624 seats across its colleges. By deliberately over-allocating, DU aims to mitigate the impact of students withdrawing or not confirming their seats, a trend observed annually due to multiple admission offers from other institutions. This strategy helps maximise seat fill rates in the early phases of admission.
System Stability: More Candidates Freezing Seats
Nearly 18,000 students freezing their seats in Round 2 shows growing satisfaction with allocations and reduced churn. With fewer students waiting to switch, colleges may begin to see more stable enrolment numbers even before Round 3 begins. The growing trend of early confirmations signals the system’s increasing transparency and efficiency.
Key Dates and Next Steps for Applicants
Candidates allotted seats in Round 2 must accept the offer between July 28 (5 PM) and July 30 (4:59 PM). Colleges will verify and approve applications by July 31, and the fee payment deadline is August 1 (4:59 PM). Those who fail to meet these deadlines will forfeit their current allotment and will not be eligible for upgrades in future rounds.
After the conclusion of Round 2, DU will release details of vacant seats, and open the mid-entry window for new applicants who missed earlier rounds. Round 3 allocations will follow, subject to availability.
Most programs require a minimum score of 60% or higher on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in order to get admission to Delhi University (DU). In particular, a minimum CUET score of 480 out of a possible 800 is required to get admitted. Although the university takes into account a number of variables throughout the selection process, including extracurricular activities, academic background, and personal statement, reaching this minimal score criterion does not guarantee admission. While the minimum CUET score for each college, subject, and student category may differ, it is generally recommended to strive for a score in the 650–700 range for many DU courses.
As per the NIRF ranking 2024, the top 5 universities for CUET UG are:
NIRF 2- Jawaharlal Nehru University
NIRF 3- Jamia Millia Islamia
NIRF 5- Banaras Hindu University
NIRF 6- University of Delhi
NIRF 8- Aligarh Muslim University
This Round’s Standout Trends
87,335 total allocations show DU’s aggressive approach to early seat confirmation
27,314 students upgraded, showing strong use of system flexibility
24,843 fresh allocations, offering new hope to waitlisted applicants
17,922 froze their seats, indicating high satisfaction and system maturity
DU’s over-allocation strategy continues to be a key feature of CSAS–UG 2025
The academic session is set to begin on August 1, and the university hopes to finalise most of its intake before that date. With Round 3 and a mid-entry window on the horizon, those who missed the first two rounds still have a chance to secure admission.
The CSAS–UG portal continues to provide real-time updates and flexible choices to applicants, in line with the broader goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes transparency, student choice, and seamless mobility across institutions.
