Restricted timings for online classes, mandatory breaks, provisions for teachers, the latest guidelines issued by the Tamil Nadu government talks about this all. Read further to know the details. 

Tamil Nadu School Education Department released guidelines for the online classes in the state. The guidelines are issued by the state education department keeping in mind the health of the students during the ongoing pandemic situation. The Schools in the state are conducting online classes since the imposition of the COVID-19 lockdown in order to prevent academic loss. From restricted timings for classes to mandatory breaks and other provisions for teachers, are included in the latest guidelines prepared by the state education department.

Restricted timings and mandatory breaks

According to the guidelines, the online classes are restricted to 30 to 45 minutes with a mandatory break of 10 to 15 minutes so that the students can get some rest. Tamil Nadu School Education Secretary Dheeraj Kumar revealed that according to the latest guidelines released by the department, schools cannot conduct more than four sessions of 30 to 45 minutes in a day for the students of classes 9 to 12. For the students of classes 1 to 8, only two sessions will be conducted in a day. The decision is taken considering that children exposed to gadgets for a long time are prone to severe health issues and excessive use can be avoided by designing an age-appropriate schedule of digital education. 

Provision for Teachers

The guidelines also issued instructions regarding the breaks to be given before each session. Students will be given five minutes to warm up, exercise, and conduct creative activities. The supervision of parents is a must while students will be using gadgets such as smartphones, laptops with data connectivity. A fixed minimum number of classes for the teachers to avoid excess stress. According to the provisions mentioned, the teachers may take a maximum of six classes a day subject to a maximum of 28 classes a week. The classes will be conducted from 9 AM to 5 PM during the weekdays while communications regarding the online classes for the assignments will have to be done between 8 AM to 6 PM.
