It would have been helpful to know your subject and year of study, and also whether you are at the Bachelors or Masters level. Nevertheless, I am attempting to answer your question from my experience. Scoring good marks in Calcutta University is not tough - with a little hard work put in.
1. Try solve the last 5-6 years question papers. Questions get repeated, and you'll see trends emerging in the repetitions. Do prepare answers for such popular questions. Teachers and your classmates would often be a source of such suggestions, so watch out for hints on which sections of the syllabus are important in your year.
2. Practice writing answers in real time in good handwriting. Many students score low because they cannot complete the paper or their handwriting is illegible. Do leave margins at the sides of your answer booklet in examinations.
3. If you are studying at the Masters level, pay close attention to classroom discussions. The same teachers set the question papers, so whatever they focus on in the class is important.
4. If at the Bachelors level, do not ignore your pass course or compulsory subjects. Scores on these subjects do count later on, and a low score looks ugly beside a stellar performance at the Honours subject. The techniques described above would work well here too.
5.Get your prepared answers checked by your college/university teachers. They are the ones who evaluate the answer scripts in the university exams. They provide you valuable hints about what parts of your answers are redundant and what else would fetch marks - as per the university guidelines.
6. Write an introduction and conclusion to every answer. In introduction, you can define the key terms in the question. Add a diagram to illustrate your model/theory/phenomenon - wherever applicable.
7. Work round the year. All these cannot be done in the month before the examination. Also don't get disheartened by a low score in an particular examination. Trust yourself and work towards lifting your overall score.
