Yes, in all NITs, national level institutes or central funded institutes admissions are done on the basis of JEE mains merit ranking.

I am sorry to say but admission in MNNIT is done through JEE Mains only. Also, the candidate should opt for PCM in class 12th.

Since you are from general category so there is a very less chance for you to get a seat in any government college. I would suggest you to look for admission in some private college which is good in placement also.

Both the branches are good. But if you are asking for a choice, I would suggest you to go for biotechnology, because this field has a lot of scope nowadays.
