While applying for the UPESEAT exam candidates only need a minimum of 50% marks in class 10th and 12th and for PCM subjects of class 12th. However applying for the BTech mathematics and computing programme requires a minimum of 70% marks in class 10th and 12th and 70% marks individually in class 12th PCM subjects.

The basic eligiblity criteria to apply for SITEEE exam is passing the class 10+2 exam with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Computer Science/Electronics/ Information Technology/Biology/Informatics Practices/ Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/Business Studies /Entrepreneurship. Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks aggregate (40% for reserved category).

The university conducts the SNUET exam for admission to most of the UG & PG courses. Candidates seeking admission to the BTech programme must be Class 12 passed in the Science stream with at least 60% aggregate.

The BTech scholarships at IIT Guwahati have different eligibility criteria. Some of them are merit based scholarships where, the candidates are offered BTech scholarships due totheir high score in either the JEE Advanced exam or their last qualifying exam. Candidates who belong to the SC/ST groups are also awarded scholarships if they can prove that they belong tosuch categories.
