Yes, Syllabus for both, CAT and CMAT are similar for three sections i.e. Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, RC, Verbal and Logical Reasoning. However, CMAT Examination has two extra sections which are General Awareness, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. 

Candidates are advised to prepare for common topics and sections first, and then proceed to CMAT exclusive section.

There is no centralised process of counselling on national level for CMAT Entrance Examination.

CMAT is a national level entrance examination for students wanting to pursue Management Programs. The conducting body for the examination is National Testing Agency ( NTA).

After the examination, NTA no longer participates in the counselling process, counselling is in hands of the respective educational institutes who offer Masters programs to the students.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) of India administers the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), an online computer-based exam, to help schools choose qualified applicants for admission to all management programmes that have been authorised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). CMAT is the entrance exam for admission to MBA/PGDM 2021-23 in the AICTE approved management institutes and will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) as computer based test of three hours duration in a single session. The selection process for MBA admission may include: 
 
  • Preliminary screening
  • Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI):
  • Final selection
  • GWPI process
The CMAT cut off is released in the form of a percentile score. The minimum CMAT percentile required for MBA admission at top institutes is 98. The CMAT cut offs for premier universities are often in the 95-99 percentile. 
 
Here are some CMAT scores and their corresponding percentiles: 
 
  • 100 percentile: 345 to 350
  • 90 to 99.99 percentile: 281 to 340
  • 81 to 89 percentile: 201 to 280

Yes, aspirants can apply for MBA at NIT Rourkela can apply with a valid score of CMAT. The other accepted entrance exams are CAT/XAT/MAT. Candidates shall have the CMAT scorecard with them at the time of form filling and admission process. There is 40% weightage given to the entrance scores in the total selection process. The cut-off is 50 percentile. However, IBI conduct a day-long Personality Profiling Exercise including Group Discussion and Personal Interview for levelling various factors of selection standard. Based on performance in all these tests, Academic achievements and Work Experience, cut-off for IBI admission is determined.
