The opening and closing ranks for IIT Guwahati cutoff depends on the category and quota of candidates. For general category under All India, opening rank was 601 and closing rank was 654. Cut off are differant when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. In All India, opening and closing rank for female candidates was 204 and 1718. Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. Further, the selection of candidates is based on the scores obtained by them in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) followed by a counselling round conducted at the institute.

IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process. Candidates seeking admission in an IIT Guwahati MSc course must have a valid bachelor’s degree issued by a recognised university. Admission to the MSc course is based on merit in IIT JAM followed by CCMN counselling. The seat allotment is carried out based on document verification, seat intake, and category of the students, during the counselling. Candidates wanting to enrol for an MSc course must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as per the course's requirements. Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s degree in the Science stream with a minimum of 55% aggregate from a recognised institution. Additionally, the pass certificate and mark sheets have to be presented at the time of admission as proof of eligibility for verification purposes.

The total tuition fee for M.Tech ranges between INR 1.1 Lacs - INR 1.7 lakh for Regular/QIP Students/Self-financed/Sponsored Students (Part-time/Full-time) who are serving as Teachers.
