No, Business Studies is not a mandatory subject to be eligible for Loyola College, Chennai BCom admissions. Candidates who studied commerce in place of Business Studies are eligible to apply as well. However, having one of these subjects along with other mandatory subjects is a requirement to fulfill BCom eligibility criteria.

General BCom course at Loyola Chennai admits candidates based on merit in Class 12 board exams. However, other BCom courses include a screening test. Candidates are selected based on this exam for seat allocation during BCom admissions.

The Tamil Nadu government introduced a 7.5% horizontal reservation for students who studied from Class 6 to Class 12 in Tamil Nadu government schools. This applies across all categories; a portion of seats within each category's quota is reserved exclusively for government school students.

This is a major benefit: a government school student with a slightly lower cutoff score can still secure admission to top colleges that would otherwise require a much higher rank under open competition. This reservation applies to all government and aided colleges participating in TNEA counselling.

TNEA has domicile-based eligibility. You are eligible if you or your parents are Tamil Nadu residents, you studied in a TN school for a specified period, or your parents are central/state government employees posted in Tamil Nadu. Children of Central Government Employees are eligible regardless of home state if their parents have worked in TN for the past 5 years.

Pure out-of-state students who don't meet any eligibility conditions cannot participate in TNEA.
