Routers connect different networks and direct data packets between them. They analyze the destination address of each packet and determine the most efficient route (the shortest route), ensuring data reaches its destination effectively.

There are mainly three types of switches: unmanaged, managed, and smart switches. Unmanaged switches are simple plug-and-play devices, which makes them quite easy to set up. Managed switches offer advanced features for monitoring and controlling network traffic, allowing for better network management.

Smart switches fall somewhere in between, providing management capabilities with a user-friendly interface. These are best for medium-sized networks that require more control than unmanaged switches but do not need the full capabilities of managed switches.
