As per NCTE (National Council for teacher education) guidelines, candidates must have a recognised teaching-related qualification or teaching experience to enroll in a distance B.Ed program. M.A. in Functional English is not offered from the Directorate of Distance Education, Annamalai University. Their distance education programs as of March 28, 2025, include the following M.A. options: English, Tamil, History, and Sociology.
They provision M.A. Functional in their official offering, because it is a specialised course that concentrates on the practical aspects of language. There is a standard M.A. English course, which would be only open to holders of bachelor's degrees. The fees are quite affordable, about INR 7,000-10,000 per year, and admission just needs an online application with requisite documents.
