For General Category, it will be difficult to get NIT for this percentile. But, you have to keep looking for branch you prefer. Some seats are left empty in uncommon branches.

Hi there!
Around 5,00,000 students appear for this exam and compete for 2800 seats in various IITs. You probably know why the competition is so high-it is because this exam not only opens the GATE for further studies but also can place you in several PSUs (HPCL, BPCL, ONGC, PowerGrid, IOCL etc. ). I. e. , it acts as a screening for entry-level engineering jobs in several PSUs. You can get the previous year papers for GATE ee branch at made easy ace academy-just google previous year GATE papers Exambazaar. All the papers are available in PDF format, you can either download them or you can also answer them directly.

You're only aiming for NIT Trichy? Why not IITs or other private institutions? How can you expect results without working hard for it?
Another thing: are you okay with getting into NITT, but into chemical or metallurgy, and get a 4 Lacs job? NIT fees are going to be hiked to almost 2 Lacs per year without hostel. Is it okay with you?
If you have the passion for those subjects and don't mind the salary, then it's fine. But I get this question from juniors who ask this question based on some placement surveys, so I don't know how you are any different. Mind you, only CS EC & EE get good salaries for core jobs.
Placements are in bad shape

Hello Akshay Sharma, I must say that you have scored reasonably well in JEE Mains of January considering your category. I am sure you will get admission in an NIT of your desire with this percentile. However, to be sure, I am attaching a link that will predict a college for you based on your percentile score. I would like to advise you here that please prepare yourself a little better and take the examination in April once again with the aim of improving your percentile. Best wishes to you.
