At my admission time, there was only Vellore and Chennai branch two years ago and these branches are recently opened by VIT. Let me explain you the admission system here. Rank in VIT to get admission should be 90,000. So, you can get admission in VIT from the 6th category as well. There are various categories as well with each category admission fees go high. Your rank should be under 1000 in the JEE Advance exam or your marks should above 270 in JEE Advanced.

Hello Submit,
One gets three chances max after 12th to appear for JEE Mains. Hence even if you take a drop for two years it will not make much difference.

Please wait for the results and then check it. However, there is very less chance that you will qualify for JEE Advanced. Since the cut-off for obc generally goes to 50-60 marks in JEE Mains. But wait till the result is out and cut-off is not declared.

It will depend on the opening or closing rank of VITEEE. So, you must check out the last year's cut-off of VITEEE to get a clear idea of getting a seat.
Good luck.

Your board marks are low. Getting CSE is difficult. But it depends on trend during admission.
Best of luck.

Yes, your son can get a seat. But getting a seat in high demand courses like CSE and mechanical engineering is difficult.
Best of luck.
