Your marks in JEE doesn't really assure you to get a seat into any of the NIT, IIT or government colleges. You still have some other best universities you can apply for. GATE is a national level exam that you can take either to pursue M.Tech/MS in India or to get a govt job in the PSUs like DRDO, BEL, BHEL etc. Many good colleges take GATE score for M.Tech or MS admissions and many govt companies and institutions take GATE score for freshers' recruitment.
