Candidates who have passed or appearing in their class 12 examinations through any of the Boards affiliated to the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) or National or International Boards recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with the minimum aggregate of mentioned marks (or equivalent scores) in four subjects, viz. Physics, Mathematics, English and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, and Technical Vocational subjects with the 60 percent marks in aggregate are eligible to apply. Candidate whose class 12th result is awaited can apply on provisional basis.

The total number of seats available forM.Techin JNU is 65. Seat allotment procedure is carried out as per the seat intake. The separate placement data for Food Technology has not been released officially. However, the overall statistics are available. The institute has successfully placed 116 students during the 2024 drive. Earlier, 90 students were placed during 2023 placements. Looking at the past three years' data (2022 to 2024), a fluctuating trend was observed in the number of students placed. Take a look at the table below depicting the LIT Nagpur placement trends:
