The GATE 2024 pattern for the Engineering Sciences XE Paper is as follows:
General Aptitude (GA): compulsory, carrying a total of 15 marks. Section A is Engineering mathematics (compulsory): This section contains 11 questions carrying a total of 15 marks. 7 questions carrying 1 mark each (sub-total 7 marks), and 4 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub-total 8 marks). No, fixed marks are not allotted to Numeric Answer type questions, and they may vary between 25 to 40 marks. The examination duration for GATE is three hours. It includes 29 papers as of 2023. The total number of questions asked in each paper is 65, of which 10 are from General Aptitude section and the rest 55 questions from the subject. Let us tell you that, these 65 questions are spread across different types like Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and/or Numerical Answer Type NAT questions. No, questions based on Engineering Mathematics are not asked in every GATE paper. Question papers with codes AR, CY, EY, GG, M.A. PH, and XL do not consist of Engineering Mathematics questions. Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude are the compulsory sections, which include 15% weightage each in total marks in GATE papers with codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS EC, EE, IN ME, MN, MT, PE, PI TF, and XE. Students applying for GATE 2024 can opt for two subject papers from the prescribed set of combinations. Earlier, the candidates could apply to appear in only one subject.
