Yes, the exam center will arrange a qualified scribe free of charge. Candidates are not permitted to bring their own scribes. The GATE authorities will provided the scribe to the applicants.

Yes, a compensatory time of 60 minutes will be provided to candidates who have opted for scribe facility during the GATE examination. The scribe will be provided by the GATE authorities.

Along with GATE admit card, candidates must carry a valid photo ID proof. Besides, they must carry their approved medical certificate. Candidates are advised to check the instructions mentioned in the hall ticket before reaching the exam center.

The GATE conducting authorities offer scribe facility to candidates. However, to request a scribe for the GATE 2026 exam, candidates must fulfil the required criteria imposed for scribe candidates, which are as follows -

  • Candidates with permanent disabilities of 40% or more, including visual impairments or locomotor disabilities affecting writing hand are eligible to apply for a scribe. 
  • Required medical certifications and documents must be submitted during the GATE registration.

Candidates must go through the biometric identification process before the start of the exam. At the GATE exam center, the biometric verification is a component of the attendance process. 

Biometric verification, such as fingerprint scanning or photograph capture, will be conducted at the exam center. Ensure your hands are clean and free from henna or ink for smooth verification.

If you face any issues with the GATE admit card on exam day, then it is advisable to immediately contact the exam center authorities regarding the issues. Make sure to carry an additional ID and a spare printed admit card to avoid complications.

As such, there is no formal dress code for candidates appearing for the GATE exam. However, candidates must avoid wearing items with metallic objects, caps, or accessories like jewelry, belts as they may lead to delays during security checks.

Yes, it's a good practice to carry a passport-size photograph matching the one on your application, though it may not be mandatory. This can be useful in case of discrepancies. Also, ensure that the photograph must be in colored format.
