COAP 2025: IISc Bengaluru have completed COAP counselling 2025 registrations and seat allotment. The counselling was conducted to offer MTech admission in IITs along with IISc. Candidates who qualified GATE exam (2025) were eligible to participate in admission counselling. The GATE COAP counselling 2025 was held in five main and seven additional rounds. The mode of registration was online. Candidates who wanted to get into IIT had to register on scheduled dates. Selection to colleges was done based on GATE scores and document verification process. What is GATE COAP?

COAP full form is the Common Offer Acceptance Portal, initiated in 2017. Candidates with valid GATE scores are required to register at COAP to access the offers by IITs for MTech admission or job offers from the PSUs. COAP provides the platform for the candidates to practice the choices of offers by the IITs/PSUs and allows the candidates to make informed choices.

Every year, the GATE organizing institute of the preceding year acts as the coordinating institute for COAP. The IITs that participate in COAP are IISc Bangalore, IIT Bhilai, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Jammu, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Mandi, IIT Palakkad, IIT Patna, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Tirupati.

Q:   What is the mode of the GATE COAP counselling registration?
A: 

The mode of the GATE COAP 2025 counselling is online. Candidates must note that the COAP 2025 is not an application portal. It is an admission portal where candidates must choose their preferred institutes- IITs for the M.Tech and research programme.

COAP 2025 Registration Process

The COAP registration is a mandatory process that has to be done by the candidates who want to get admissions to IITs through GATE scores. Here's how you can do 

  • Candidates have to provide various personal and exam- related details- GATE paper, date of birth, registration number, paper code, score, etc.
  • After entering basic information, candidates have to provide their email ID and contact number (ensure it is active). All future information will be sent to these details
  • After submitting all the details, candidates will receive a COAP login to access the dashboard. It must be noted that the authorities do not provide any correction facility. Therefore, make sure to enter all the details correctly.

Q:   Is mandatory to register at COAP?
A: 

Yes, the participating institutes will look for the COAP registration number on their M.Tech applications portal during admissions. Candidates who have applied for the admission to M.Tech in any of the participating institutes, will receive admission offers only via COAP. 

To access and take decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers (if any) made by participating institutes, each candidate should register and visit COAP. Without registering at COAP, the candidate will not be able to access the offers on COAP.

GATE COAP 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates registering for COAP must go through eligibility conditions carefully. Details can be checked below -

  • Candidates must hold Indian nationality.
  • Must have a valid GATE scorecard.
  • Candidates with more than one scorecard, must provide the one whith better rank.
  • Each discipline has different eligibility, candidates must go through it carefully.

Admission Process via COAP 2025

The admission process via COAP is done in the following way -

  • Register online according to the dates mentioned. Only candidates who have registered can get admissions to IITs
  • Candidates must apply separately to the respective IITs for MTech admission. During the registration phase, candidates have to enter their COAP registration number
  • The COAP counselling process is done in different rounds. Applicants can check the updates regarding the activity and seat allotment on their dashboard
  • After each round, candidates have to make a decision - accept and freeze or retain and wait or reject all the above and wait and confirm it by clicking OK
  • Keep visiting the website for the latest updates, and complete the stages to confirm your admission
  • The additional rounds in COAP are done to fill leftover seats

What is a decisive round in COAP?

Decisive round in COAP is also called as final main round. Only two options are available under this: "accept and freeze" and "reject"

"Accept and Freeze" If a candidate is willing to accept one of the offer then they can select this option. After choosing "accept and freeze" candidates must follow subsequent admission or joining procedure within deadline.
"Reject" Choose this option if you are not willing to accept any of current offer. All offers available in this round will be considered as rejected.

Offer Rounds by IITs in COAP

All IITs offer admissions to students in rounds. COAP conducts five main rounds and 7 additional rounds (depending on seats left) for counselling. Qualified candidates can participate in each of these rounds to get branch/course of their choices. The following options are available at the time of counselling. The additional rounds will have two options only - either accept and freeze or reject and wait.

Q:   What are the options available when I receive an offer of joining/admission in COAP?
A: 

After receiving the admission offer letter from GATE COAP, counselling candidates will have three options available to perform, which can be checked below-

  • Accept and freeze
  • Retain and wait and 
  • Reject all and wait

COAP 2025 Options for Offers

COAP counselling offers following decision options -

Accept and freeze:

  • Candidate can select this option to accept one of the given offers and exit.
  • After selecting click on submit and visit the respective institute admission portal or PSU portal to follow rest of process.

Retain and Wait:

  • Provisionally accept while waiting for other possible upgrades to higher preferences in subsequent rounds.
  • If a higher preference offer is made, then applicant can release the current offer.
  • Candidate can also choose "retain and wait" for same offer.
  • Click submit to confirm your decision

Reject all and wait:

  • Applicant can select this option if they do not wish accept any current offer.
  • The offer candidate has selected will not appear in subsequent round.

If a candidate is happy with the seat allotment in COAP counselling then, he/she can confirm and proceed for document verification.

What After Accepting Offer at COAP?

Candidates who are satisfied with their seat allotment must download their COAP seat acceptance or offer letter from portal. Then, applicants must report allotted institute to complete further admission process. Final selection depends on document verification process and admission fee payment within deadline. Candidates are advised to keep all their documents ready for counselling process.
