The conducting authority will prepare the HSTES cutoff based on the marks obtained in JEE Main. The HSTES B.Tech. cutoff formulates the merit list. It consists of the rank of the candidates. The HSTES cutoff ranks will be different at participating colleges. Also, several branches will have different cutoff ranks. In simple terms, B.Tech lateral entry is the direct entry of a candidate into the second year of engineering, which is in the third semester, after completing a Diploma in engineering or a B.Sc. in Physics or Mathematics. Those candidates who are accepted need not study the first year or first two semesters of B.Tech. and will be eligible for direct admissions. The duration of the whole course is six semesters, or three years.

HSTES also conducts state-level Online Common Entrance Test (OCET) for admission to the BPharmacy course. The admissions to BE/BTech courses are made based on the All India Rank of JEE Mains conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Admissions to the BArch course are made based on rank obtained in NATA conducted by COA and JEE Main paper part II conducted by NTA.
