Without doubt NITs or CFTIs are the best bet after IITs. You will have to clear JEE Mains with good marks to get admission. These institutions have good faculty members and robust placement cell.

Let's us first agree on cracking CAT and IIT Advance mains. If you are aiming to seek admission in JEE mains admission in legacy IITs in core branch of engineering then it is tougher in comparison to CAT. Also, if you take number of seats and candidate appearing for entrance exams then JEE advance will be tougher in comparison to CAT. One can clear CAT without any preparations if your IQ and communication skills are exceptional.

Since the cut-off of JEE advance is around 75 for general and 67 for OBC students, if you got something closer to 140, you will end up with any good IIT, and even a better branch. Your rank will be less than 6000.

Admission in all of the IITs and NITs are done through the centralised counselling JOSAA. You cannot apply separately. And for IISC, you need to apply for it separately.

If you have to study engineering in good colleges of the country, try once more after preparing for another year. It may sound ridiculous to sit at home and study for another year but trust me it can give you a better chance. If dropping a year is not your option, you can get admission in some less known private colleges. If you want any further information contact me with your field of interest. Before class 12th and after class 10th, you have to join IIT coaching centre anywhere in India where it is suitable for you. It is a 2 year coaching course and in class 12th, you will have to give JEE Mains. And, if you pass it, then the second exam would be JEE Advance. If you are a CBSE / ICSE board student, then you can do self-study without coaching, and if you are state board student, then you need coaching. After you pass Advance, you will get a college according to your rank in JEE Advance.

For getting any of these branches in any of the IITs, you need to get rank under 5000, for which you need around 160 -170 marks in JEE Advanced.

It is not necessary to join IIT to become a game or software application designer. B.Tech CSE/IT or MCA from a decent college with good development experience is the foundation step to become a designer.

The maximum coaching classes are from 3-9. However, Resonance is a better option.
