The JEE Advanced Round 1 closing rank 2026 for CSE admission was 149 for students in the General AI category. Similarly, for IIT Bombay, the closing rank stood at 65, indicating a very competitive rank for CSE admission. Considering the first-round cutoff, it is much easier to get admission to IIT Madras for CSE as compared to IIT Bombay.

For students belonging to the SC AI quota, a cutoff rank between 13 and 674 is considered to be a safe rank for MSc admission at IIT Bombay. The better (lower) your rank, the higher is the probability of securing a seat at IIT Bombay for MSc. This is the overall cutoff range for MSc admission, including all the rounds and specialisations for the SC category students. The round-wise IIT JAM cutoff range for 2025 is given below for MSc admission.

IIT Bombay observed an inconsistency in the closing ranks for CSE admission over the past three years for students belonging to the General AI quota. In 2023, the JEE Advanced last round closing rank was 67, which increased to 68 in 2024. In 2025, the admission cutoff further decreased to 66, indicating a fluctuating trend for the CSE branch. The placement data regarding PhD placementsat IIT Bombay are currently unavailable. The overall IIT Bombay placement data shows that in 2024, around 683 students were placed. The data claimedthat majority of the students placed were placed in the IT/Software sector. However, which course had the most amount of placements as well as howmany PhD students got placed isstill unknown.

For admission to the BSc course at IIT Bombay, candidates are first required to complete the basic eligibility criteria, which state that applicants must complete their Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. For reserved categories (SC, ST, and PwD), the minimum aggregate is 65%. Further, all the IIT aspirants have to appear for JEE Main and afterwards, JEE Advanced. Only the top 2,25,000 scores in JEE Main will become eligible to sit for JEE Advanced.

IIT Bombay M.Tech admission is granted based on merit in GATE exam. Candidates seeking admission must have a valid score in the national-level entrance examination. The rank required for getting an admission in IIT Bombay depends upon the branch. For high competitive branch like Computer Science engineering a rank around 100 is considered safe. For electrical engineering and mechanical engineering a rank inside 500 and 1500 is required. The cut off rank also depends upon the students category.
