Sarbani, Design is a field that is age old &has been evolving every year like science. The world has changed a lot and a lot of new & wonderful careers in design have come up. Sometimes student Artists are too much enamoured by Fine Arts preventing them to look objectively at Design. They must read this http://bit.ly/SXc9GD. Again like science it pays to be at the cutting edge. For e.g. science students do better if they go for CS or IT since that are areas where development is taking place rapidly. Similarly in Design the cutting edge areas are UID/ UXD, 3D Printing, Immersive Technology, Augmented Reality, 3D Projection etc, besides of course Game Design & Animation. Of course at the top of the pile lies Concept Designing (usually reserved for writers and visionaries) - these people are required by Event Companies, Animation Studios, VFX Studios, & of course Game Studios. At this stage, you may want to understand the creative world & the careers it offers. Interiors, textile as well as Web Design rely on the same skills - your layout skills & color sense. Journalism also is at this level and relies on your language skills & knowledge of history and current affairs. A little higher perches Graphic Design, Fashion Design, jewellery design, Acting, & Fine Arts which rely on one of your artistic skills - sketching & imagination. At a similar level perches VFX as well as Motion Graphics which rely on one of your artistic skills - Cinematographic skills & imagination. Then come careers like Animation, Film Making, Game Design which rely on multiple talents like your authority over sketching, acting, direction, voice, sound, writing, storytelling & problem solving skills etc. Any extra skill can be used in this. So it turns out to be one of the most challenging as well as satisfying careers. Sure not recommended for the weak hearted. Do remember that digital design careers (e.g. web design, graphics, UI design, animation, vfx, multimedia) give better profits since they can be delivered anywhere in the world & hence may earn in dollars - resulting in better rewards for designers. An architect is general terms is the one responsible for the basic design of the Building, whereas the interior designer is more concerned with the interior ambiance.An Architect :
-undergoes a rigorous education, which includes higher mathematics and drafting.-Usually undergo internships before going out into the world. -They must possess an understanding of a buildings basic structures. Most importantly an architect is responsible for the integrity and soundness of the buildings.
An interior designer can take an absolutely hopeless place and turn it into something charming and comfortable. Though they can suggest structural changes to walls, windows and additions, they can't do the architectural plans.
-They normally work with fabrics, furnishings flooring paint, wall coverings, art and object d'arts.

Although it is preferable to pursue a Degree before looking out for a career as an interior designer, However after 10th only a Diploma is possible.
There are many institutes that provide interested students with admission on a general eligibility criteria, stated below:
Diploma –Class 10th pass from a recognized board with minimum 40% marks.
Bachelor's Degree: Class 10+2 examination with at least 50% marks. Post-graduation degree: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university with at least 45% marks.

The Degree in Interior Design, is generally three years Distance Learning and is designed to meet the demand of the growing needs of experts in the fields of construction management, building industry, interior design and decoration, architecture furniture design, civil engineering, fine arts, vastu science and exhibition design.

Hi Lalit,
There is a big difference between interior decorators and interior designers. To sum up the difference in one word, the difference is —Education.
Quite literally, anyone can become an interior decorator. Someone who loves playing with colors, fabrics and textiles can easily become a decorator by simply printing off a business card and promoting themselves to clients. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but educational background is also important.
On the other side, an interior designer must have an accredited education. A Bachelors degree is a requisite for working in the interior design field.
Starting a company also involves a lot of decision making & Investment, depending or whether you would like to design yourself or would you like to hire the resources.
In case you are the core designer then it would be preferable to have an education as you would not like to take a risk with the investment that you have made in your company or with the amount that clients give to you. In the later case although it may not be compulsory but to differentiate the bad from good and good from the better an education would definitely help.
