Nift is well-known everywhere. In Ranchi also maximum people don't know about Nift. According to me there may be following reason:
Lack of publicity. Low strength: In Nift, the overall strength is around 1000. It is less than any private school. Branches:In Nifft there is only two branches that is metallurgy and manufacturing. Maximum people have lack of interest towards these branches. It's name:It is not popular due to its name also. When we say Nift, maximum people thinks it is national institute of fashion technology. Yes, you can. Admissions to IIT are based on GATE score. They also need some minimum score in B.Tech too. You can check their brochure for exact eligibility details.

It is a question to be asked before the answer to your question is written. From where you have done your B Tech? If that had been from a place which is becoming your limitation to get a good job then you must join an IIT which is premier institute and is a name for employers. An M.Tech means a real Higher Degree to. Claim good jobs in Research and development as well.

No, you can't not even if you have internationally published and recognized projects. They want GATE. I don't know if it's an IIT thing or an MHRD thing but a person who spends most of his/her day doing really good projects has little time to prepare for exams like GATE and are usually not the type who sit idle and study for an exam for a year after finishing their degree.
So if you're bright, a hard worker, and doing good research/project work, in India you are out of luck.
