Every engineering college has different syllabus and different subjects for B.Tech and M.Tech in different branches. It is difficult to answer your generic question. You may ask very specific question.

I can tell you about CSE in SGSITS. You really have to be under 18000 to get the CSE in SGSITS and the department is also very strict. You have to forget about mass bunk and you start worrying about assignment. You will get overall nice and competitive environment but if you are targeting for high package then IT has got nice placements.

There are B.Tech integrated courses available in which you can complete your B.tech and M.tech in 5 years, and if you want to do B.Tech only, then it takes 4 years after that in M.Tech, it take two years.

But, In some branches, you can choose it's connected branch for M.Tech
Like Mechanical- Automobile
I.C- Biomedical Engineering.
