CAT syllabus includes all the important topics of subjects that are relevant for business aptitude. For CAT exam, candidates have to study, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension VARC Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning DILR and Quantitative Aptitude. Given below are the key topics included in the CAT syllabus.

  • VARC topics:  Parajumbles, Paracompletion, Parasummary, Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension. 
  • Quantitative Aptitude topics: Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra Trigonometry Modern Math, Number System and Mensuration.
  • DILR topics: Puzzles, Pie Charts, Venn Diagram, Tables and Bar Graphs, etc.

The CAT is conducted as a difficult MBA entrance exam because it is the main national level test for MBA Admission in India. Over 2 Lacs candidates appear for it every year. Thus, the competition is high. The question paper is set by the IIM. Even though the score is accepted by over 1300 colleges the top colleges accept above 90 percentile. The Iims have cut offs above 95 percentile. It has been seen that out of the total number of test takers which is usually around 2 Lacs, only about 20 candidates are able to score 99-100 percentile. BITS Pilani offers MBA programs in various specializations such as Finance, Marketing, Operations, etc. For admission to the MBA program, a Bachelor's degree (10+2+3 system) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks is required. It would be helpful if you can mention the name of the college you are referring to for PGDM or PGDM IB admission. Different colleges have different cutoff scores for admission based on various parameters such as the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and the selection process.
However, I can give you an idea of the general cutoff scores for CAT and XAT for admission to top management colleges in India.

MAT and CMAT have similar syllabus but the difficulty level is different. Both exams have Quantitative Aptitude Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, English and General Knowledge. CMAT has an additional section - Innovation and Entrepreneurship which was introduced in 2021. While MAT is an easy exam, CMAT is moderately tough but to say which is better totally depends upon the college a candidate is targeting for MBA Admission. Since, MAT exam is conducted only for admission to MBA and PGDM/PGP courses. It is a post graduate level business aptitude test comprising Quantitative Aptitude critical reasoning, data interpretation, data sufficiency, language comprehension and general awareness.
