With a score of 477 in NEET 2024, securing a government MBBS seat may be challenging. The expected cutoff for general category candidates is between 550 and 580 marks, while for reserved categories, it ranges from 163 to 129 marks123. Your chances might improve in states with lower cutoffs or through the All India Quota, but generally, a score above 600 is recommended for better prospects in government colleges45. Therefore, it is always better to check the specific state-wise cutoffs as and when they come for counseling.

To be eligible for MBBS, the key requirements typically include:

1. Subject Requirement: For MBBS, you must have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12, along with English. Since you passed PCB and English, this satisfies the core subject requirements.

2. Minimum Marks: You usually need to meet the minimum aggregate percentage in PCB to qualify for medical entrance exams (like NEET). Some institutions may have a minimum requirement for individual subjects as well.

3. Failing in CS: Failing in Computer Science (CS) won't affect your eligibility for MBBS, as long as you have passed the core subjects (PCB and English).

Balancing your passion for astronomy research with pursuing MBBS for your parents' expectations is challenging but possible with careful planning and a strategic approach. Here's how you can navigate this:

  1. Understand Your Priorities:

    • Reflect on what you truly value—your passion for astronomy versus the MBBS path.
    • MBBS offers a clear, stable career path in medicine, but research in astronomy offers intellectual exploration and contribution to scientific discovery.
  2. Explore Dual Pathways:

    • Pursue MBBS as your primary career while maintaining astronomy research as a side interest through extracurricular research, online courses, and collaborat

With a 505 marks score in NEET and SC category, you have a good chance of securing an MBBS seat in a government medical college (especially under State Quota) or in some private medical colleges. Your exact prospects depend on the specific cutoff trends in the year you apply and the state you belong to. It's important to follow the NEET counseling process closely and consider both state and AIQ counseling to maximize your chances.

According to the latest cut off information available for admission into MBBS course at St. John's Medical college , the last closing rank was rank 83588 which got admission. So, if your rank is less than 83588 then you can definitely get admission into MBBS program at the St. Jonh's Medical College.

You should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12. You must have scored at least 50% in the PCB group for general category students and 40% for reserved categories according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI). Since you have taken PCM with Biology in Class 12 and have overall scores of 60% PCM with Biology, eligibility would depend on your marks in the PCB subjects, besides that you need to clear NEET exams that have been made mandatory for getting admission into MBBS. Check with individual colleges you are applying to see if they have any specific eligibility.
