Admissions at National Institute of Fashion Technology are entrance based. There is an entrance exam conducted by the institute named as NIFT test. The test includes various parts like Creative ability test, general ability test, group discussion etc. The students need to qualify in the entrance exam in order to get admission. Cutoff will be released based on the number of seats and applications. Students need to qualify in the cutoff rank also. The cutoff rank for B Des fashion designing in 2023 was 1692. It is merit based but you can apply here directly. you have to pass in the 12 th boards with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY AND MATHEMATICS and you have to secure atleast 50% marks. And you have to pay the fees of the college which is nearly around 4-5 Lacs rupees (minimum) the highest fees is around 7.5 Lacs rupees ( for aeronautical engineering).

For certain courses, students are chosen purely on the basis of their academic standing in their qualifying exam, usually the 10+2 exam, and admissions are made only on the basis of merit. Other courses have a combined merit and entrance exam admissions process, which means that applicants need to be strong academic performers as well as score well on entrance exams like the Consortium of Management Studies, Karnataka (COMED-K) or the Karnataka PGCET (Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test).
