NIT Srinagar admission is entrance-based. Aspiring candidates must qualify the national entrance exam as per the desired course. For admission to its BTech programme students must appear for JEE Main. For PG courses institute accepts, GATE, CAT, MAT, CMAT, and IIT JAM. Aspiring candidates must qualify for the exam before the application process.

NIT Srinagar is popularly known for its BTech programme. The institute offers BTech specialisation in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. NIT Srinagar fee structure for the BTech course is INR 5 lakh. It is the only tuition fee for the four-year programme.

Yes, NIT Srinagar facilitates scholarships to the BTech students. To avail of a scholarship, aspirants must meet the eligibility requirements of the respective scheme. The students shall be allowed to avail only one scheme at a time. Some of the common scholarships that the institute may accept for admissions are:
- National Scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This scheme can be availed by students with excellent Class 12 results.
- The aspirants can apply for State Scholarships as well and get selected based on Class 12 aggregate or family income.

The cutoff for NIT Srinagar's BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programme differs each year. In 2023, the Round 1 and Last Round closing ranks for General All India category applicants were 24006 and 20540, respectively. In 2022, these rankings were 23915 and 17811, respectively. The starting rank for CSE in Jammu & Kashmir reserved seats was 523, with a closing rank of 1199 in 2023. Furthermore, the total cutoff for JEE Main at NIT Srinagar spans between 3161 and 6551.
