Non-GATE candidates are offered admission in M.Tech based on institute-level examination. NIT Srinagar conducts an entrance test to fill up self-sponsored/ sponsored category and vacant seats after the CCMT Counselling is over. Such candidates have to apply on the institute's website and appear for the entrance test.

National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT Srinagar) is one of 31 NITs in India, designated an Institute of National Importance. The campus life is really good at NIT Srinagar. The campus is located on the banks of the Jhelum River in Srinagar, Kashmir; scenic views and four distinct seasons. There are departmental labs, central library, computer centers, and classrooms. The college also offers on-campus hostels for men and women; facilities range from basic to decent depending on block and maintenance cycle. Annual techno-cultural festivals, departmental fests, and informal cultural nights also takes place in the college offereing a great academic & cultural life.

Admission criteria to NIT Srinagar is both, merit and entrance based and is different for all UG and PG programmes. To get into UG programmes, the eligibility criteria is the minimum aggregate in Class 12 or equivalent, along with entrance exams. Similarly, the eligibility criteria to get into PG programmes is graduation in any discipline (this may vary from course to course), along with entrance exams.

NIT Srinagar offers BTech across several specialisations. The duration for BTech at NIT Srinagar is 4 years. The eligibility for BTech courses at NIT Srinagar is Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 75% in any stream from any recognised state or national board, along with a valid score in JEE Main.

NIT Srinagar conducts the application process for all courses in online mode. The step-wise application process is given below:
- Register and appear for the JEE Main exam.
- JEE Main qualifiers register for JoSAA counselling
- Fill college and course choice.
- Seat allotment is conducted by JoSAA for the locked choices.
- Pay the admission fee.
