Yes, it is required. Good TOEFL (minimum of 90) or IELTS (minimum of 6.5) scores for applicants whose medium of instruction at the Bachelor's or Master's level was not in English. SMU's TOEFL institution code is 9014. Students must ensure to take the tests within 2 years prior the admission.

US News and World Report has ranked the university #616 under Best Global Universities and #176 under Best Global Universities in Asia. It has ranked few majors as well, including Computer Science (#107), Social Science and Public Health (#638) and Economics and Business (#90).
