International students can apply to Stockholm University via Universityadmissions.se. Select your programme, check the entry requirements, create an account, and submit your application with supporting documents by the deadlines. Applicants outside the EU/EEA must pay an application fee. After acceptance, non-EU/EEA students need to apply for a residence permit. The TOEFL iBT score requirement is a minimum of 90, with a minimum score of 20 in each section. This requirement is equivalent to the English 6 level, which is the general entry requirement for most master's level courses and programs at the university.

Yes, an average Indian student can join Stockholm University. However, they must fulfill the general entry requirements for Bachelor's or Master's level studies as well as the specific entry requirements for the programme or course they wish to apply for. Additionally, they must demonstrate proficiency in English through certain upper secondary studies, university studies, or an internationally approved English test. Indian students wanting to study in Sweden for more than three months must obtain a residence permit.

The first admission round usually has an application deadline in mid-January, with admissions results published in early April. The second admission round has a later application deadline and results are published in July.

Stockholm University is one of the top-ranked universities of Sweden. The university is ranked #4 in Sweden and #114 in the world as per Shiksha Popularity Ranking. ARWU has ranked the university #100QS World University Ranking ranked Stockholm university #147 in 2026 and #44 in 2025. This indicates a declining trend when compared with previous year rankings.

Apart from this, US News ranked the university #156 in 2025. However THE rankings were #191 in 2025.

Yes, the Scholarship Scheme at Stockholm University is aimed for qualified students and covers the whole tuition fee for a master's programme at Stockholm University. The living cost, however, has to be taken care of by students only. Swedish Institute also provides scholarships to international students at Stockholm University.
