Mystory@P Vasundhara Devi: Why I became a teacher

3 mins readUpdated on May 4, 2017 16:35 IST

I did not understand Physics and Maths, so, I used to learn it by heart. I used to sit at the last bench because I feared that if I sat in the front, the teachers would ask questions.

In my first Maths exam at the Inter level, I scored just one mark. But my father never scolded me. He asked me to try again. I finally managed to clear my Inter level exams in the 12th attempt. I was able to complete my Inter only because of the help provided to me by my Dad, God and my teacher. My teacher was a blessing for me, he helped me by making me understand the basics. From that day onwards, I never looked back. I passed my BEd with distinction and even topped my college. I completed my PG from Sri Venkateswara University with Physics as a subject.

Now, I am a lecturer in a private college. I know why students are not able to understand topics taught in class because I have also been there. I used to feel really bad when I couldn’t clear my Inter and all my friends completed theirs. I felt really bad and depressed and even attempted suicide but God saved me. So, I want to tell all students that college is the best place where we can shape our future. It is the place where we can either spoil or build our future. I have made many mistakes, I did not concentrate on my studies and wasted precious time. I don’t want others to make the same mistakes. Everyone should work had in their college days as it is the place where we can develop new ideas, get the necessary exposure and enhance our creative side.

My Career as a Teacher

I always loved to teach. So, I thought of pursuing MSc BEd because I was inspired by my Science teacher, Maqbool Sir. He used to teach Science in a very interesting way by narrating stories. Due to his teaching methodology I could understand Science but was not able to solve the numerical questions that were asked in Class 9. That is when I thought of becoming a Teacher and decided that even if students ask silly questions, I would help clear their doubts. I decided this because whenever I had any doubt and I asked my teachers to explain, they used to make fun of me by saying, “don't you know this simple thing”. That is why I developed a fear of asking any question if I did not understand a topic. I became a teacher so that I can set an example and be different from my teachers.

I am happy that I am a Teacher. If any student is weak in a subject, I try to teach them from the basics so that they can understand the topic better. I am enjoying being a teacher and I will never look back.
