Himachal Pradesh University is recognised by UGC and NAAC. Also, HPU has a total of 7 institutes which include the Department of Evening Studies, HPU Business School, University Institute of Technology, HPU College of Business Studies, University Institute of Legal Studies, Institute of Tribal Studies, Institute of Vocational Studies. No, candidates do not require passing an entrance exam for admission to BTech (lateral entry) at Himachal Pradesh University. Admission to BTech (LE) courses is based on merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam. Candidates need to complete a three-year Diploma preferably in the same branch (IT/CSE/CE/EE/ECE) with at least 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for reserved category) ), preferably from Himachal Pradesh State Board of Technical Education or equivalent to get admission in BTech (LE) programme.

In the first year of the BTech degree at HPU Shimla candidates go through the concepts that they've already studied in their Class 11 and Class 12. This is done so that students know the basics of the concepts that they're going to use during their time at the course. The first year also ensures that students coming from different boards are on the same level about necessary concepts required for engineering. Candidates who have taken admission into the university in the latent entry BTech programme do not have to go through these concepts in the first year.

In 2024, HPU cutoff 2024 has been released for the admission to BAMS course. As there was only one course available for the candidates, so, there was no the lowest rank as per HPU AYUSH cutoff 2024. Admission to HPU is conducted through HP NEET scores. The HPU cutoff 2024 for the UG courses has been till Round 4 seat allotment results.
