Himachal Pradesh University is recognised by UGC and NAAC. Also, HPU has a total of 7 institutes which include the Department of Evening Studies, HPU Business School, University Institute of Technology, HPU College of Business Studies, University Institute of Legal Studies, Institute of Tribal Studies, Institute of Vocational Studies. Since, it is a public state university, the programme fee is very less. 

Taking admission in HPU will also provide placement opportunities to students. The university conducts placement drive every year. According to Himachal Pradesh University NIRF report 2024, the median package offered during HPU Shimla BTech and MBA placements 2023 stood at INR 4 LPA and INR 5.5 LPA, respectively.

Good side of studying at HPU:

• In comparison to other universities, HPU is affordable in terms of everything. The tuition fee, along with other fee components is lower.
• The University offers UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma, Certificate and PhD courses across various specialisations. All these courses are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC. 
• Being in Shimla, students enjoy the scenic view and pleasant weather which can contribute to a positive study environment.
• There are opportunities for research and projects, especially in fields such as environmental science, tourism, and social sciences, which can be enhanced by the university's location.

Bad sides of studying at HPU:

• According to the student reviews on Shiksha, students may find that resources such as libraries and labs can be limited compared to larger institutions.
• Additionally, administrative processes can sometimes be slow, which may affect student experience.

HPU offers scholarships as financial aid based on Economically backward category to students who belong to categories such as BPL for continuing their higher education. Sports scholarship to 16 students belonging from the teaching department for outstanding performance in sports, and cultural activity scholarship is awarded to 10 students for their performance in academic and cultural activities.
