B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2028
4.6
5Placements4Infrastructure5Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
One of the best colleges for marine engineering with a high placement rate.
Placements: The placement of the Indian Maritime University Kolkata campus is very good. For the 2024 pass-out batch, the placement was around 98%, and for the 2025 pass-out batch, it was around 97%. In this campus, you can easily get a placement if you don't have supplements. The overall placement is very good and top-notch.
Infrastructure: The overall infrastructure of the Indian Maritime University Kolkata campus is quite good, covering 33 acres of land. The infrastructure of the new academic building is very good. All classes are fully air-conditioned, and the labs have various equipment. Our campus has Asia's largest marine workshop.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members got their Ph.D. from IITs, and some of them are passouts of our campus who served in the maritime field as chief engineers, which makes it easier for us to understand marine subjects. They also share their experiences with us, which helps us to become good marine engineers and perform well in the maritime field.
Other: The overall experience of this campus is very good. The faculty helps us in research, and if someone has a teaching mind, then this college is a gem for him/her. The campus has its own ground stretching over 7 acres where we can improve our physique, and this college has all the sports facilities for sportspersons.

B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2028
4.2
5Placements4Infrastructure4Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
One of the best colleges that offers a degree in marine engineering and best placements.
Placements: For the last batch, it was around 97%, and for 2024 passout, it was 98%. The placements are best from here. The lowest rate of placement occurred in 2021 due to covid. Otherwise, the placements are above 95% every year. Placements for girls start from 1st year and for boys 2nd year onwards.
Infrastructure: Our college has an outstanding academic building and fully centralized and air-conditioned. But in hostels Wi-Fi is not available. The menu of food is alright but taste is okay, not great. There are no hygiene issues. There are supportive seniors and great atmosphere for sports and extracurricular activities. We have the largest marine workshop in Southeast Asian, and the labs are great.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified, and some of them are ex-chief engineers and captains who have sailed for more than 20 years, which gives a great insight into sea and ship. Most of the faculty members have their Ph.D. from IITs.
Other: I chose this course because of placement percentage and high salary in this field. This college is one of the oldest colleges that offers a degree in marine engineering.

B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2027

College is creating legacies.
Placements: The batch that is going to pass out this year got 96.35% of students placed in top companies like NYK Line, MOL, Chevron, Wallem, Torm Tankers, etc., with a minimum package of 900$ per month. They will be joining the ship as an engine cadet. College is best.
Infrastructure: Express Wi-Fi is available all over campus. The library is open all day except Sunday. It has Asia's largest marine workshop with engines namely Yanmar and Allen. It has air-conditioned classrooms with projector and simulators. Lift facilities are available all over the campus. It is filled with greenery and nature all around. Hostels are also very good with a cafeteria and canteen. The best part is the food which we get from a mess.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified and are professionals in their own field of subject. I must say that their teaching quality is awesome. This course curriculum makes students world-class sailors because the environment which is provided by the college is A one. Semester exams here are a bit difficult because marine engineering is not like other branches of engineering.

The best marine institute IMU-KC.
Placements: The recent batch of 2025 which has been passed out was placed 94% of its total strength to date. The highest package offered was 1400 dollars and the minimum was 800 dollars with top recruiting companies such as NYK lies, Chevron, Pacific Basin, Torm Tankers, Fleets Management, Wallem, and many more. The cadets passed out from the college are offered the rank of trainee and marine engineer onboard.
Infrastructure: College is fully nature-friendly with residential-type courses. Smart labs and library for the students to enhance tier expertise. Simulator labs and VR labs are also top-notch. The mess menu and quality of food slightly coincide with that of NDA. Basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, football, hockey, and many sports are also available.
Faculty: Faculty here are highly qualified with most of them hailing from renowned NITs and IITs and also from research institutes. This course makes the student fit for the marine field as required onboard. The semester examinations are not that tough but one has to study moderately for the same to score good marks.

It's a hard job, but if you get used to it, you will make a good living out of it.
Placements: Our placement rate is quite steady with 99% of the cadets being placed every year. The highest package offered is Rs. 1200 $ per month and the average is around 600-700 $ per month. Top recruiting companies include Chevron, Shell, Scorpio, Dynacom, etc. There are internship opportunities for every cadet from the 2nd year onwards. We get in as a 5th engineer onboard where we learn how to deal with the job.
Infrastructure: There are air-conditioned classrooms with projectors and Wi-Fi facilities in each of them. There's a separate library where Cadets can go study on their own before the exams. There are mess facilities in each of the hostels. The quality of the food is decent. Almost every sport from football to table tennis is being played on the campus. There is a separate medical facility inside the campus.
Faculty: The faculty in IMU Kolkata Campus is well-qualified most of them having prior experience in this field being ex-chief engineers and surveyors. The course is wholly marine-oriented teaching us the basics of whatever is required to be a marine engineer on a ship. Semester exams are moderate. Students can easily fail if they have not studied enough. Some of the subjects are really hard and need time to be dealt with.
Other: I chose this course so that I can be financially independent and stand on my feet at a young age. There are all kinds of activities going on inside the campus along with studies starting from cultural to teaching events. The annual fest of the college is called the Tempest and is one of the most major events along with the passing out parade.

A place to start your marine career. Very good placement ratio.
Placements: 95 percent placement rate, if a decent aggregate is maintained, then placements are not an issue here. Major companies like Feet Management, Chevron, Torm Tankers, NYK, Dyna Gas, Zodiac Maritime, etc. visit here. Overall, placement rate is very good. Cadets get internship opportunities from the 2nd year itself.
Infrastructure: Classrooms have AC and projectors. Wi-Fi is available in the academic complex and some hostel complexes. The library is available with a wide range of books (almost all genres of books are present). Hostels are in a good state, food quality is the same as the other hostels have. Canteen is available in the academic block and even in the hostel premises. Gymnasium and swimming pool are present, and almost all sports are available.
Faculty: Teaching quality is okay. The course curriculum is related to the industry and makes the cadets ready for the marine field. Semesters are not very tough. This college has the oldest and the biggest workshop, which gives the cadets proper exposure to the marine field and makes the cadets ready for ships mentally and physically as well.
Other: IMU KC holds fests like Lit-o-sphere (literature fest) and TEMPEST (Asia's largest marine fest). It also provides for NCC (air and naval wing). Each batch has 250-280 cadets. Various extracurricular activities are there, and this college is very good for personality development and gives great exposure to the marine field.
