Kumaun University is a state university established under the Act No. 10 of state with the merger of two government colleges including DSB Government PG College, Nainital and Almora Government P G College, Almora. 

Kumaun University admission is based on merit and entrance exam depending from one course to the other. For admission to merit-based programmes, the university releases an admission list after the application process is over. For entrance-based programmes, the admission depends on the scores obtained in the entrance exam.

Kumaun University admission to all the programmes is both merit and entrance-based.
